SYSTEM SPECIAL INSTRUCTIONS

Section G—CAB PROCEDURES



These instructions apply to NCE ProCab and Master Series controllers only. They do not apply to "utility" cabs that do not have an LCD display.

1.

EMERGENCY STOP: In event of an emergency, the active locomotive/consist can be immediately stopped by pressing the EMERGENCY STOP key. Warning: Changing speed or direction will restart the locomotive(s), possibly at high speed.

2.

GLOBAL EMERGENCY STOP: Pressing EMERGENCY STOP three times in succession will bring the entire layout to a stop by shutting off track power. "LAYOUT STOPPED!" will be displayed on all ProCabs. To clear the Emergency Stop, press the ENTER key on the Cab that executed the Emergency Stop.

SELECTING A LOCOMOTIVE: To select a locomotive or locomotive consist:


a.

Press the RECALL button to select a blank recall slot (or recall slot that can be discarded). If the selected slot is not blank, the locomotive at that slot will be discarded and the new locomotive or consist will be assigned to that slot.


b.

Press the SELECT LOCO key.


c.

At the ENTER LOCO prompt, enter the address of the locomotive or consist to be operated and then press ENTER. For locomotives, the address is typically the unit's road number; for road numbers less than 128, a leading zero must be entered. For consists, you may enter either the consist's address (from 1 to 127), or the road number of the lead unit.

4.

CONTROLLING LIGHTS AND FUNCTIONS: Pressing the HEADLIGHT key will toggle the locomotive headlight on and off.

To toggle other functions, press the number key that corresponds to the function you wish to control.

For locomotives equipped with sound decoders, pressing the HORN key will sound the horn; pressing the BELL key will toggle the bell on and off.


5.

RELEASING A LOCOMOTIVE: To release or clear a locomotive or consist address from the Cab:


a.

Press the RECALL key as needed to select the locomotive or consist to be dropped


b.

Press the SELECT LOCO key.


c.

At the ENTER LOCO prompt, enter 0 (zero) and then press ENTER.

SETTING UP A CONSIST: To set up a locomotive consist:


a.

Make sure all units to be consisted are stopped, at speed step 0.


b.

Press the RECALL key as needed to select a blank recall slot (or recall slot that can be discarded). If the selected slot is not blank, the locomotive at that slot will be discarded and the consist will be assigned to that slot.


c.

Press the SETUP key.


d.

At the ENTER=ADV prompt, press ENTER to setup an advanced consist.


e.

At the CON ADDR prompt, enter the consist address and then press ENTER. The consist address can be any number from 1 to 127. By convention, the last two digits of the lead unit's road number should be used as the consist address.


f.

At the LEAD LOCO prompt, enter the lead unit's three or four digit road number and then press ENTER.


g.

At the DIR THIS LOCO prompt, press ENTER if the lead unit is to be operated in the forward direction; otherwise, toggle the direction by pressing the DIRECTION key and then press ENTER.


h.

At the ADD LOCO prompt, enter the three or four digit road number for the next unit to be added and then press ENTER.


i.

At the DIR THIS LOCO prompt, press ENTER if this unit is to be operated in the forward direction; otherwise, toggle the direction by pressing the DIRECTION key and then press ENTER.


j.

Repeat steps h and i for each additional unit to be added.


k.

When all additional units have been added to the consist, at the ADD LOCO prompt, press ENTER to return to the normal Cab display.

7.

ADDING A UNIT TO A CONSIST: To add an additional unit to an existing locomotive consist:


a.

Make sure the consist and the unit to be added are stopped, at speed step 0.


b.

Press the ADD LOCO key.


c.

At the CONSIST ADDR prompt, enter the consist address or the lead unit's road number and then press ENTER.


d.

At the ADD LOCO prompt, enter the three or four digit road number for the unit to be added and then press ENTER.


e.

At the DIR THIS LOCO prompt, press ENTER if this unit is to be operated in the forward direction; otherwise, toggle the direction by pressing the DIRECTION key and then press ENTER.

8.

REMOVING A UNIT FROM A CONSIST: To remove a unit from a locomotive consist:


a.

Make sure the consist is stopped, at speed step 0.


b.

Press the RECALL button to select a blank recall slot (or recall slot that can be discarded). If the selected slot is not blank, the locomotive at that slot will be discarded and the locomotive being removed from the consist will be assigned to that slot.


c.

Press the DELETE key.


d.

At the ENTER LOCO prompt, enter the three or four digit road number for the unit to be dropped and then press ENTER. Note that the lead unit cannot be dropped from a consist.

9.

CLEARING A CONSIST: To clear (delete) an existing locomotive consist:


a.

Make sure the consist is stopped, at speed step 0.


b.

Press the CLEAR key.


c.

At the KILL CONSIST prompt, enter the consist address or the lead unit's road number and then press ENTER.
